As a proven high performer with a track record for excellence, have you felt the emotional strain of always being the Only, the First, or One of the Few Black women in your organization? Do you feel isolated from other talented Black women on your same journey, alone? unsupported? by the obvious lack of diversity and your organization's flagrant preference for sameness. Are you finally fatigued by the seemingly undercover racist practices in staffing, leadership diversity, the brazen, unchecked micro-aggressions, such as passive-aggressive emails, covert sidelining, or excluding you from meetings, different or changing performance expectations/rules for you but not others? Are you confused and angered by mysterious work reassignments, unrealistic or constantly changing timelines for your performance deliverables? Or maybe worse, your workplace trauma includes unprovoked harassment, disparate treatment by your supervisor or mobbing by peers, and then out of the blue, your livelihood is in jeopardy. You're placed on a performance improvement plan and have no idea what to do next because this has never happened to you before. Have you ever felt anxiety, depression, or anger at the fact that your low-performing counterparts skate by on their homogenous privilege, showing up every day and being applauded for just AVERAGE performance, while you are expected to break your overperforming back for little or no acknowledgment or credit? Maybe you're struggling with a racist, narcissistic boss, but can't afford to quit right now? If you've answered yes to any of these questions and you are ready to solve your problem vs. remain long-suffering, I can help. If you can't find a mentor inside of your organization, HIRE ONE. Everybody needs career guidance, and you should not have to forgo the same opportunities that others naturally have access to simply because of the color of your skin. As your mentor, performance coach, we'll meet monthly, outline a strategic plan for how to first mitigate the immediate effects of your workplace trauma (your brain's fight, flight, fawn, or freeze response to the trauma), and then stabilize you with a weekly behavioral outline for how to navigate your racist supervisor or workplace based upon what you want to achieve. Contrary to what it feels like, you are Not alone. Organizations set US up for failure but You DO NOT have to power through without the "privilege" of a mentor, coach, or organizational champion. You DO have a choice.
